Upon getting married to Tosiq Ahmed Ansari, I adopted his last name. My husband also had a religious background and his family tree roots to Abu Ayub al-Ansari of Medina. He was a beloved companion of Prophet Mohammad and was known for his efforts in Da’wah. His tomb can be found in Istanbul today.

Due to the nature of my husband’s job we moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Allah opened a gateway of opportunities for me to learn about Islam. I was guided by a mentor, Mrs. Nasreen Baig, and learnt Arabic from an Educational Institution. Mrs. N. Baig taught me Qur’an with word-to-word translation and I was inspired by the word of Allah. It was soon to become my greatest passion. I had a strong interest in reading which lead me to immerse myself in Islamic literature. Fortunately, I also had the opportunity of visiting Makkah and Medina countless times to performe the pilgrimage and serve the pilgrims.

During my time there, I sensed that women lacked knowledge about Islam which provoked me to initiate a study circle for young ladies. In order to fully prepare myself, I studied the collections of Maaruf-ul-Qur’an by Maulana Mufti Shafi, Tafheem-ul-Qur’an by Maulana Maududi, and Ameen Ehsan Islahi’s Tadabbur-e-Qur’an. Meanwhile I gave birth to my children and devoted time to managing my household. Simultaneously, study circles for men lead by Dr. Farhat Burney and Dr. Hassan-ud-Din also took place at our home. Overall, I gained a great understanding of the deen and had a very rewarding learning experience in Jeddah.

In 1989 we moved to Houston, Texas. Upon being introduced to the Muslim community, I noticed a large interest for seeking knowledge of the deen. I began teaching a class on the word-to-word translation of the Qur’an. The popularity of the class rose and the ladies committed to coming weekly. In 8 years we finished the entire Qur’an. During this time, I continued to give various weekly Islamic lectures in homes, classrooms, and masaajid around the city. By the grace of Allah, the number of attendees exponentially increased. I was also appointed as the principal for the women’s “Institute of Islamic Sciences”. Amongst other noble facilitators such as Sheikh Nisar, Sheikh Walid Basyouni, Sr. Hana Jamal, and Alia Hayat who taught Hadith, Fiqh, Arabic, and Tafseer respectively I was selected to teach the Seerah Of Prophet Mohammad (SAW).

In order to quench my own thirst for knowledge I attended several online courses in Comparative Religion, Arabic Grammar, and the History of Islam taught by Dr. Sabeel Ahmed. After a break, I was requested to restart my halaqa. I used telephone recording as a medium to share knowledge. I currently give those live lectures on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11am-12noon central time. These can be heard from anywhere in America. They are specifically designed for those who do not have the luxury of leaving their homes in pursuit of knowledge. In this fast-paced, technologically driven society, it is my goal to always find new ways to pursue knowledge. The recordings can now be found on this website after they air.

Thus far I am proud to say “Umar Guzri Hai Is Dasht Ki Sayyahi Main” (My life has been spent in the service of Islam). May Allah accept my efforts. For I am merely a student who has spent time studying the interpretation of the Qur’an and attempted to teach it to others. I am merely a woman who feels ignited and inspired by those 7th century women who survived the massacring of the Mongolians and raised the flag of Islam. Who established a network of Qur’anic study circles, and whose words influenced youth and caused a revival of Islam. I am merely an advocate who wants you to all to recognize the need to be a da’eeya in your own communities. Women are not only mothers, sisters, and daughters but we are also preachers of Islam. Our goal should be to live by the Qur’an and Sunnah. To portray Islam in a way that is livable and to never lose sight of the Aakhira. The Qur’an is a miracle of the Prophet (SAW) and it is abundant with guidance, and knowledge. Explore it, embody it, and recover the ever-living truths that are buried from within each page.

I hope that this website can serve to be a method of Da’wah for people worldwide. I encourage you to listen to these lectures and accept your duty to inform your family, and friends as well.

Allah says in the Qur’an, Surah-al-Mu’min, verse no. 40:
“Whoever does good, whether man or woman, provided that he is a believer, all such people shall enter Paradise wherein they shall be provided without measure.”
